The tournament is held each year during the first complete week in August. There is a licensed refreshment marquee and free car parking is available for competitors and spectators. The Framlingham Lawn Tennis Tournament is an LTA Grade 3 Event. There are open and handicap events for seniors in men's and ladies singles and doubles, as well as mixed doubles. The Suffolk (closed) men's and ladies singles and doubles are held in the early days of the week. Junior events are in all age groups from under 18 to under 10 in both singles and doubles, with mixed doubles at under 18 and under 14. There are also ten categories of event for veterans. The tournament has a requirement for recognised tennis clothing, comprising predominantly white sleeved tops and footwear with white or coloured shorts/skirts, which is enforced. Framlingham is thought to be the second oldest tournament, after Wimbledon, still in existence. Framlingham in fact had a ladies singles championship one year before Wimbledon! |
